Soon I will be off to Paris for the first time, however this is no relaxing vacation, instead I will be learning, networking and experiencing sports journalism through different cultures and expanding my knowledge, hopefully allowing me to find the path to my career. The more I read A Moveable Feast, the more I resonated with Hemingway. It wasn't easy starting out for him, he was in a place he didn't know very well. He needed to make connections and take in his surroundings, noticing the smallest of details to help with his writing. Hemingway may have not lived a lavish life in a lavish city, but he made the most of it and was happy. This showed me, as long as I'm doing what makes me happy I shouldn't worry about money, status, etc.
I don't think the Paris I go to will be that different from Hemingway's. The small cafes, the quiet streets with the local shops, the amazing views are all things I look forward too. Getting to know the deep history of the city and the locals is something that would be helpful in expanding my knowledge for the future, giving me an experience that I would not be able to forget for years to come.
What I like about sports journalism is there are so many different opportunities. What I want to do after school has changed many times, from broadcasting to reporting to communications and PR. Journalism has allowed me to gain valuable experience in all areas and directed me towards working with a team or sports organization in media relations and communications.
I am very excited to travel and learn in Paris and compare mine and Hemingway's experiences. Journalism has changed with the times and technolgy but I hope to become a better journalist as Hemingway did and make memories that will last a life time.
Next time in Paris...
